Sunderland are reportedly targeting Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore as they look to add more firepower to their attack.

The striker position has been a problem one for Sunderland since promotion back to the Championship. Ross Stewart quickly got injured and has since been sold to Southampton, leaving the Black Cats with a bunch of youngsters and Nazariy Rusyn.

Rusyn is the only one to score so far and he offers plenty of promise, but he is far from the kind of traditional centre forward the club probably needs.

Moore would certainly fit that bill and, according to journalist Alan Nixon, he is a player Sunderland intend to battle for this month.

A loan deal would look a lot more likely, though, with Sunderland generally unwilling to invest large transfer fees and big contracts on players over the age of 24.

At 31-years-old, Moore does not fit that model, although he is the kind of player the supporters have been crying out for.

He’s a mobile, physical centre forward who can win headers and be a penalty box presence, which are all things that have been missing from the Sunderland attack since Stewart initially got injured a year ago.

Nixon has also linked Sunderland with Blackburn’s Sam Gallagher should they fail to get Moore, who may be tough to convince to move to the north east given former club Cardiff are also very keen.
