Blackhawks Recall Defenseman Alex Vlasic from Rockford
Jon Durr-USA TODAY Sports

The Blackhawks have called up their 6-foot-6 defenseman Alex Vlasic from the Rockford IceHogs.

The Chicago Blackhawks' season is winding down and now is a time to see what the team has in some of their top prospects. On the blue line, the Hawks have a plethora of talented players who will be vying for ice time in the near future. One of those names is on his way to join the Blackhawks ahead of their Tuesday night matchup with the Dallas Stars. Per the Blackhawks' release, Alex Vlasic is joining the team and is reportedly at morning skate

Vlasic has 17 points (two goals, 15 assists) in 52 games at the AHL level this season. However, the big defenseman is quite the defensive presence on the ice and has shown potential at the NHL level as well.

The 21-year-old hasn't appeared in any NHL games this season, but got an extended 15-game look in 2021-22. In that span, Vlasic recorded his first career goal and assist while gradually earning more minutes with each passing game. In his final two games of the stint, Vlasic tallied over 20 minutes of ice time

Entering the 2022-23 campaign, there was thought that Vlasic would earn some NHL time to begin the year. However, he was doubtful for opening night and then sent down to Rockford roughly one week later. Vlasic also fractured his fibula earlier in the season, but returned early to continue his development. Now, with Jarred Tinordi on the shelf once again, the Wilmette, IL native gets his shot to conclude this season.

The Blackhawks welcome the Dallas Stars to the United Center on Tuesday, March 28 for a 7:30 p.m. CDT puck drop. Including Tuesday's game, the Blackhawks have nine games remaining this season with five of those at home.
