J.J. McCarthy draws rave review early in Vikings camp

J.J. McCarthy is already making a strong impression at Minnesota Vikings camp.

The Vikings have begun their voluntary offseason team activities (OTAs). McCarthy, who was the No. 10 overall draft pick by Minnesota, is participating and apparently looking good.

Vikings reporter Alec Lewis of The Athletic said that the velocity with which McCarthy throws the ball stands out.

McCarthy is wearing jersey No. 9 with the Vikings. You can see him throwing on the right in this video:

McCarthy was the fifth quarterback selected in last month’s draft. He didn’t put up huge passing numbers in college at Michigan, but he helped the team win plenty of games, including the national championship last season.

At 6-foot-3 and 219 pounds, McCarthy is bigger than many people realize. He also is fast despite not putting up big rushing numbers. Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has done nothing but praise McCarthy at every turn. His predictions about McCarthy are looking good so far.
