The Tulsa Drillers, Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, had a pair of teammates honored for their performances as Eddys Leonard was named Texas League Player of the Week and Alec Gamboa took the honors as the Texas League’s Pitcher of the Week.

It is the first time since 2019 that the Drillers took home both awards in the same week, previously done when Connor Wong was named Player of the Week and Markus Solbach was named Pitcher of the Week.

Leonard went 10-for-20 in the Drillers’ five wins over the San Antonio Missions, hitting four doubles and two home runs to go along with six RBI and five runs scored. Leonard’s .500/.545/1.000 slash line raised his season average by 82 points, so after a slow start he is now batting .211./.311/.633.

Gamboa appeared in two games during the week, throwing 5.1 hitless innings and allowing just one baserunner while striking out six. He earned a win on May 2 after throwing three perfect innings with for strikeouts.

The left-handed reliever has thrown 14.2 innings this year with a 3.07 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 11 strikeouts.

This is the third and fourth time a Drillers player has received a weekly honor this season. Jorbit Vivas won Player of the Week for April 17-23 and Andy Pages received the award for April 10-16.

Austin Gauthier named Midwest League Player of the Week

In addition, High-A Great Lakes shortstop Austin Gauthier was named the Midwest League Player of the Week after hitting .579/.667/.947 in 19 at-bats (11 hits).

He totaled 18 total bases with two doubles, one triple and one home run, along with eight RBI and six runs scored. He also drew nine walks over the course of six games while striking out just four times.
